What does this fault code mean?
The ECM sets the code when the actual idle speed stays below its limit for a certain time. The cause may be a blocked intake or exhaust system, which the driver may notice as low or uneven idle.
Possible causes
- Blocked intake system
- Blocked exhaust system
What you can do
- 1If the idle is low and unsteady: check that the intake and exhaust systems are not blocked
- 2If the idle is high and unsteady: check that the intake has no leaks or damage
- 3Clear the obstruction and check whether the idle becomes normal. If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment fault-trace further
Symptoms you may notice3
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) on
- Low idle speed
- Uneven idle
