What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the analogue signal from the accelerator pedal sensor, which travels via the central electronics module (CEM) and the CAN network, with the PWM signal that is wired directly to the ECM. If the difference between the signals is too large, the code is set. The fault can lie in the pedal sensor, the wiring or the communication.
Possible causes
- Fault in the central electronics module (CEM), which should be troubleshot first
- Loose connections, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections to the pedal sensor
- Open circuit in the signal wire or the ground wire
- Fault in the CAN communication between the engine control module and the CEM
- Fault in the pedal sensor's PWM signal or analogue signal
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1First fix any fault codes in the CEM, since they may be the cause of this fault
- 2Check the fuse and supply voltage to the pedal sensor with the ignition on
- 3Inspect the connections in the pedal sensor connector and in the engine control module connector for loose contact, contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the analogue and PWM pedal values in live data while pressing the pedal down slowly, and see whether the difference grows
- 5If there is no wiring fault and the code comes back, suspect the pedal sensor. The replacement is best done by a workshop
Symptoms you may notice5
- Text message in the information display
- Poor accelerator pedal response
- Automatic start and stop does not work while driving
- Automatic start and stop does not work at idle
- Engine stumbles, surges or runs unevenly at steady speed
What the fault can affect1
- Engine power is limited
