What does this fault code mean?
The ECM watches the pedal position sensor and the brake light switch. If their signals become implausible relative to each other while both pedals are pressed, the code is set. The check runs while driving, with the accelerator pressed and then the brake.
Possible causes
- Loose contact, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- One of the pedal sensor signals is faulty
- Fault in the brake light switch signal
- Damaged brake light switch
- Damaged accelerator pedal position sensor
What you can do
- 1Check whether any fault codes are stored in the brake system control module (BCM) or the central electronics module (CEM). Fix them first
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the brake light switch status and see that it changes when the brake pedal is pressed and released
- 3With the ignition on, read the accelerator pedal signal in live data and see that it rises when the pedal is pressed
- 4Check the connectors on the brake light switch and the pedal sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 5Check that the brake light switch is correctly fitted and correctly adjusted
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor accelerator pedal response
What the fault can affect1
- Engine power is limited
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
