What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) receives traction control information over the CAN network. If it registers that the signal is faulty, the code is set. Troubleshooting starts in the brake system control module (BCM) and then continues in the central electronics module (CEM).
Possible causes
- Fault in the brake system control module (BCM)
- CAN-related faults in the central electronics module (CEM)
- Contact resistance or oxidation in connectors
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring to the central electronics module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes in the brake system control module (BCM) first and fix them
- 2Then read the fault codes in the central electronics module (CEM) and fix those related to CAN communication
- 3Check the connectors for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4This code can only be cleared once the BCM codes and the CAN-related CEM codes have been fixed and cleared
- 5After repair: clear the code and test drive the car to check that it does not come back
Symptoms you may notice1
- Cruise control does not work at all
What the fault can affect1
- Traction control is not available
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
