What does this fault code mean?
The ECM has registered an internal fault. The normal engine control functions then request more torque than is reasonable at most, and the code is set. Engine speed and torque are limited, and performance becomes worse.
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
- Air leakage in the intake system
- The code may be a follow-on fault from another fault code in the ECM
What you can do
- 1Read the other fault codes in the engine control module first. If this code is a follow-on fault, fix the root fault first, and then the code can be cleared
- 2Check the intake system for air leakage, and the hoses and connections on the intake pipe for leaks and damage
- 3If the code remains after other faults are fixed and no leaks are found, have a workshop check or replace the engine control module
Symptoms you may notice4
- Maximum engine speed is low
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Engine runs unevenly at idle
- Malfunction indicator lamp lit
What the fault can affect2
- Engine speed is limited by cutting off fuel supply
- Torque requests are capped at a reasonable calculated level
