What does this fault code mean?
The ECM has registered an internal fault: the engine speed calculated in its monitoring functions differs from the speed used by the normal engine control functions. The code is then set, and engine speed and torque are limited to a calculated reasonable value.
Possible causes
- Damaged engine control module (ECM)
What you can do
- 1Clear the code and test drive the car to see whether it comes back
- 2If the code returns, or the fault is permanent, the engine control module needs replacing. Replacement is a workshop task
Symptoms you may notice4
- Maximum engine speed is low
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Engine runs unevenly at idle
- Malfunction indicator lamp lit
What the fault can affect1
- Engine speed and torque are limited to a calculated reasonable value
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
