What does this fault code mean?
The idle speed control in the engine control module (ECM) has registered that engine idle speed is too high or too low compared with what the module expects. The fault has probably arisen in the fuel system, and the code is never set on its own. This means the cause usually lies in another part of the system.
Possible causes
- The fault has probably arisen in the fuel system
- The code is never set on its own, so the cause lies in another part of the system
What you can do
- 1Read all the fault codes in the engine control module and note which are stored together with this one
- 2Fault-trace the other codes first, especially those for the fuel system, because this code is never set on its own
- 3Remedy the fault in the fuel system; once it is fixed, clear the fault code and road test the car to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice5
- Poor performance and lack of power when driving
- Uneven idle
- Engine stalls during acceleration or deceleration
- Cruise control does not engage
- Red warning symbol and text message in the display
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
