What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module has cut the power to the damper motor of the throttle unit, so the throttle returns to its spring-loaded position through the return spring. The code is therefore an indication that other fault codes in the module have put the throttle unit out of operation. It does not point to a separate fault in the throttle itself, so the other fault codes determine how the fault is traced.

    Possible causes

    • Other fault codes in the engine control module have put the throttle unit out of operation

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module and note which are stored together with this one
    2. 2Deal first with the fault codes that put the throttle unit out of operation; this code is only a consequence of them
    3. 3This code cannot be cleared until the underlying fault codes have been remedied and cleared
    4. 4Road test the car after the repair and check that idle is smooth and the engine gives normal power

    Symptoms you may notice5

    • General warning lamp on
    • Message in the text display
    • Reduced performance
    • Cruise control does not work at all
    • Uneven idle

    What the fault can affect2

    • Engine torque is limited by cutting the fuel supply
    • The maximum permitted torque depends on the accelerator pedal position and the spring-return position of the throttle

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
