What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named signal missing, it concerns the engine control module's internal restart function. The module checks continuously that this function works, and the code is set when a fault is found in it. The fault points to the module itself, and while it tries to restart, the engine may stall or fail to start.
Possible causes
- The software in the module is faulty
- The module is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and start the engine to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the battery is in good condition and that the module connectors are fully seated
- 3If the fault returns, a workshop should download new software into the module
- 4If that does not help, the module is damaged and must be replaced; the new module needs its software, which a workshop provides
Symptoms you may notice4
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) is on
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) flashes
- The engine stalls
- The engine does not start although the starter motor turns
What the fault can affect1
- The engine control module tries to restart itself
