What does this fault code mean?
A diagnostic function in the engine control module has been allowed to use substitute values, and the car's drivability has been affected. The code is set when the module finds that drivability has become worse. Other fault codes for components or functions that are not working are likely to be stored as well, and these should be fault-traced first.
Possible causes
- A fault found by another diagnostic function, whose substitute value negatively affects drivability
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the engine control module and note which are stored
- 2Fault-trace the other fault codes first and remedy the faults they point to
- 3With a diagnostic tool, compare the ranking values; a high Worst with a low Latest points to an intermittent fault or one that is not active
- 4Clear the fault codes once the faults are remedied and road test the car to see whether this code returns
Symptoms you may notice5
- Message in the display
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Jerky operation and uneven idle
- Poor accelerator pedal response, and the accelerator pedal is ignored when braking
- Maximum vehicle speed is reduced
