What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named vehicle speed signal, it concerns the CAN link between the BCM and the ECM. If that communication is disturbed or stops, the code is set, and automatic engine start and stop then does not work. The fault may sit in the brake control module or in the CAN-related communication.
Possible causes
- A fault in the brake control module (BCM)
- A problem with the CAN communication between the brake control module and the engine control module
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the BCM first, then in the CEM
- 2Fault-trace and remedy the faults in the brake control module and the CAN-related codes in the CEM first; this code cannot be cleared until they have been remedied and cleared
- 3Check the connectors and wiring harness of the CAN network for open circuits and chafing
- 4Do not work on the braking system yourself; have a workshop check the brake control module, since the fault belongs to it
- 5After the repair, clear the code and road test the car to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice3
- Automatic engine start and stop does not work while driving
- Automatic engine start and stop does not work at idle
- Autostart does not work
