What does this fault code mean?
The code is set when the engine control module detects an internal fault in itself. While the fault is present, communication on the CAN network stops, and a defective engine control module is the cause.
Possible causes
- A defective engine control module
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the battery is in good condition and that the engine control module connectors are fully seated and free from oxidation
- 3If the fault returns, the module is defective and must be replaced; a new module has no software and must be programmed, which a workshop does
Symptoms you may notice3
- Cruise control does not work at all
- Uneven idle
- Poor accelerator pedal response
What the fault can affect1
- Communication on the CAN network is lost
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
