ECM-A6A0
VOLVO
ECM-A6A0 - Ignition switch. Faulty signal
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module receives the ignition key position from the central electronic module (CEM) over CAN. If that signal is missing or faulty, the code is set and the engine may not start. The fault may lie in the CEM, its power supply or the CAN wiring.
Possible causes
- The ignition switch signal is missing or faulty
- There is no power supply to the central electronic module (CEM)
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring to the CEM
- CAN-related fault codes in the CEM
- An internal fault in a module on the same section of the CAN network
- The CEM is not intended for this car, for example if a used module with different software or hardware has been fitted
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first, since the fault is set there before it shows in the engine control module
- 2The code cannot be cleared until the code in the CEM has been remedied and erased
- 3Check the fuse and the connectors to the CEM if the supply may be broken; a multimeter can confirm that voltage is present
- 4Check the CAN wires between the engine control module and the CEM for open circuits and chafing
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not start
