ECM-B000
VOLVO
ECM-B000 - Battery voltage. Faulty signal
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS70 (1997–2000), V70 (1997–2000)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the battery voltage once the engine has been running for a short while and the engine speed is above a set level. If the voltage is too low or too high, it treats this as a fault and the code is stored. The code concerns the battery voltage and charging itself, not a sensor.
Possible causes
- Defective charging system
- Defective battery
- Open circuit in the voltage supply wire
What you can do
- 1With a multimeter, check that battery voltage is normal while the engine runs, and that it does not become too high or too low as the engine speed rises
- 2Check that the battery terminals and cables are fully seated and free from oxidation
- 3If a battery charger or starter unit has been connected, check that the correct voltage was set; charging at too high a voltage can cause this code
- 4If the voltage is wrong, have a workshop check the charging system with suitable equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- The car cannot run on gas
What the fault can affect1
- Gas operation is blocked
