What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) monitors the signals from the ignition switch control module (SCU). The engine control module checks that both the direct cable signal and the CAN signal are reliable, and the code is set when the CAN signal quality is too low. The check starts when the engine starts, and starting or autostart can then be affected.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Short circuit to ground in the communication cable
- Short circuit to supply voltage in the communication cable
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the connections
- Short circuit in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read the fault codes in the central electronic module (CEM) first; this code can be cleared only once the root fault is remedied and its code erased
- 2Check the signal wire between the modules and the connectors for open circuits, short circuits and oxidation
- 3With a multimeter, check whether the communication cable has an open circuit or a short to ground or supply voltage
- 4On XC60 cars built before mid-November 2010 the fault-tracing may differ, so leave the judgement to a workshop
