ECM-B1A980 - LIN Bus circuit #1. General Failure Information. No sub type information
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module communicates with the alternator control module (ACM) over the LIN bus, but its messages never reach the bus. The fault means the engine control module cannot communicate with the alternator control module, which can make the engine start poorly.
Possible causes
- Damaged connector
- Open circuit on the LIN bus between the engine control module and the alternator control module
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact
- 2Check the connectors at the engine control module and the alternator control module for damage, loose contacts and corrosion
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the LIN wire is continuous between the engine control module and the alternator control module with the connectors disconnected
- 4Erase the fault code and start the engine to see whether the fault returns
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check communication on the bus with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not start, either all the time or at some times
