What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the communication with the driver information module (DIM). The fault code is set when the engine control module finds that the DIM link is not working, and it can show up as warning messages in the display.
Possible causes
- Look for CAN-related fault codes in the driver information module (DIM)
- The driver information module receives no supply voltage
- Poor contact, contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring to the driver information module
- Internal fault in another control module on the same network section
- The driver information module is not intended for this car, for example a used unit with other software or hardware
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes in the driver information module and in the engine control module, and fix the CAN codes first
- 2Check that the fuses for the driver information module are intact
- 3Check the connectors at the driver information module for loose contacts and corrosion
- 4Look for breaks and chafing on the wiring to the driver information module
- 5If the driver information module has been replaced, check that it fits this exact car
- 6Erase the code once the faults are fixed, then road test the car to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice2
- A text message and warning symbol appear in the display
- Warning lamps and warning signals behave abnormally, for example the Check engine lamp
