What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module keeps watch on supply voltages for several components wired to it. The fault code is set when one or more of these components has lost its voltage supply, and a short circuit to a sensor or valve in the exhaust or throttle system can be the cause. The engine may be hard to start.
Possible causes
- The supply voltage has been shorted to the throttle module position sensor
- The supply voltage has been shorted to the particulate filter differential pressure sensor
- The supply voltage has been shorted to the EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the throttle position in live data and check that the value follows the accelerator pedal as it is pressed and released
- 3Check the wiring to the throttle module, the particulate filter sensor and the EGR valve for chafing and pinched sections
- 4Use a multimeter to check whether any of the wires has contact with voltage or ground with the connectors disconnected
- 5Erase the fault code and road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the components with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not start, either all the time or at some times
