What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the supply voltage to a number of sensors and components connected to it. This code applies when the supply to one or more of them has been lost, and a short circuit to the throttle position sensor, the particulate filter pressure sensor or the EGR valve may be the cause. The engine may then have difficulty starting.
Possible causes
- The supply voltage has been shorted to the throttle position sensor
- The supply voltage has been shorted to the particulate filter differential pressure sensor
- The supply voltage has been shorted to the EGR valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the particulate filter pressure sensor value in live data and check that it changes when the engine idles and when the revs rise
- 3Check the wiring to the throttle module and the EGR valve for chafing, pinched sections and loose connectors
- 4Use a multimeter to check whether the wires have contact with voltage or ground with the connectors disconnected
- 5Erase the fault code and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the sensors and the valve with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- The engine does not start, either all the time or at some times
