What does this fault code mean?
The control module for the steering wheel buttons receives continuous information about the cruise control buttons from the central electronic module (CEM) over CAN. The fault code is set when the message from the CEM stops, and the cruise control then does not work.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the communication cable
- Communication cable short-circuited to ground
- Communication cable short-circuited to supply voltage
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the connections
- Short circuit in the connections
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes in the CEM and in the steering wheel button module, and fix the CAN codes first
- 2Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery has a good charge
- 3Check the connectors at the CEM for loose contacts and corrosion, and look for chafing on the communication cable along the wiring harness
- 4If the battery has been disconnected or the engine control module has been reprogrammed: press the brake pedal twice for about two seconds to activate the cruise control
- 5If the fault is in the wiring at the steering wheel, have a workshop check it
- 6Erase the fault code once the others are fixed, then road test with the cruise control to see whether it returns
Symptoms you may notice2
- The cruise control does not work at all
- The cruise control does not engage
What the fault can affect1
- The cruise control is disengaged for as long as the fault is active
