What does this fault code mean?
The central electronic module (CEM) regularly asks the control modules in the system for their checksum. The engine control module records the fault if a control module does not respond in time or reports an incorrect checksum.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in one of the CAN wires
- Short circuit between the CAN wires
- A control module in the system is not intended for this car
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes in the CEM first. There is no separate fault-tracing for this code, so start from the codes in the CEM
- 2Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery is connected
- 3Check the connections in the CAN network for contact resistance and corrosion
- 4Look for breaks and chafing on the CAN wires
- 5If a control module has recently been replaced, check that it is intended for this exact car
- 6Erase the code once the others are fixed, then road test the car to see whether it comes back
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
