What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module holds a unique configuration ID that must agree with the other modules on the car's CAN network. If no acceptable ID arrives in time, the fault code is set. The driver normally notices no symptoms.
Possible causes
- Wrong CAN configuration ID, for example when the module is not made for this exact car, such as a used unit with other software or hardware
- Open circuit in the CAN wiring between the engine control module and the CEM
What you can do
- 1If the module has been replaced, for example with a used one, ask a workshop to check the configuration, since it may carry the wrong ID for this car
- 2Read out the fault codes in the CEM and the engine control module, and fix the CAN codes first
- 3Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery has a good charge
- 4Look for breaks and chafing on the CAN wiring between the engine control module and the CEM
- 5Erase the fault code once the faults are fixed, then road test the car to see whether it comes back
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the configuration and software with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
