ECM-C405 - Invalid Data Received From Cruise Control Module
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
4 modelsC30 (2007–2013), C70 (2006–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the cruise control button information that the central electronic module (CEM) sends over CAN. The fault code is set when that information is wrong or implausible. It is stored in the CEM first, so fault-tracing starts there.
Possible causes
- The cause lies in the central electronic module (CEM)
What you can do
- 1Start fault-tracing in the CEM, since the code is stored there first. Erase nothing until the root fault is fixed
- 2Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery is charged
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the cruise control button states in live data and check that the value changes when the buttons are pressed and released
- 4Check the connectors at the CEM and the engine control module for loose contacts and corrosion
- 5After a battery change the cruise control must be activated again: press the brake pedal twice and hold it briefly the second time
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop read out and check the CEM with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- The cruise control does not engage
What the fault can affect1
- The cruise control is disengaged for as long as the fault is active
