What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors CAN signals coming from the DIM instrument cluster. The fault code is set when the DIM signal is registered as wrong. The fault may come from fault codes in the DIM itself or from a unit that is not intended for this car.
Possible causes
- Fault codes set in the driver information module (DIM)
- The driver information module does not suit this car, for example if a used unit with other software or hardware has been fitted
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes in the driver information module first, and fix them before erasing anything
- 2Check that the fuses for the driver information module are intact and that the battery has a good charge
- 3Check the connectors at the driver information module and the engine control module for loose contacts and corrosion
- 4Look for breaks and chafing on the CAN wires between the two modules
- 5If the driver information module has been replaced, check that it is intended for this exact car
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the driver information module with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice2
- A text message and warning symbol appear in the display
- The Check engine warning lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
