ECM-CD00
VOLVO
ECM-CD00 - Battery Monitoring Sensor (BMS). Communication fault
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
3 modelsC30 (2007–2013), S40 (2004–2013), V50 (2004–2013)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the battery monitoring sensor (BMS), which measures battery voltage, current, capacity and temperature. The fault code is set when the signal cable to the sensor is open or when the sensor has been damaged in some way. The automatic start/stop function then stops working.
Possible causes
- Open circuit on the LIN connection between the engine control module and the battery monitoring sensor (BMS)
- Damaged battery monitoring sensor (BMS)
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual
- 2Check that the battery terminals are tight and that the battery is clean and well charged
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the battery voltage and current in live data and check that the values change when you start the engine and switch on the lights
- 4Check the connector at the battery monitoring sensor for loose contacts and corrosion
- 5Look for breaks and chafing on the signal cable between the sensor and the engine control module
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the sensor and replace it if it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice1
- Automatic engine start/stop does not work, both while driving and at idle
What the fault can affect1
- The automatic engine start/stop function is switched off
