What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has registered a communication fault between the CEM and itself, or between the CEM and the brake control module. The fault code can also be set if the steering wheel module (SWM) sends a faulty signal.
Possible causes
- Interference in the communication
- Communication fault
- The cause lies in the central electronic module (CEM)
- The cause lies in the steering wheel module (SWM)
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes in the CEM and the steering wheel module first, since fault-tracing starts there
- 2Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery has a good charge
- 3Check the connectors at the engine control module, the CEM and the brake control module for loose contacts and corrosion
- 4Look for breaks and chafing on the CAN wires between the modules
- 5Erase the fault codes only after the others are fixed, then road test the car to see whether the fault comes back
- 6The brake control module governs ABS. If the brakes or ABS feel uncertain, do not drive the car; have a workshop check it
