ECM-E005 - Vehicle speed Faulty signal

Applies to the following models:

What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the true vehicle speed with the speed signal that comes from the brake control module (BCM) over CAN. The fault code is set when the speed is wrong or when the signal from the brake control module does not arrive. Engine performance then drops, because torque can be limited.
Possible causes
- The cause lies in the brake control module (BCM)
- Faulty CAN communication
What you can do
- 1Read out the fault codes in the CEM and other affected control modules first. Do not erase the engine control module code until the others are fixed
- 2Then start in the brake control module, since it sends the speed signal
- 3Check that the fuses are intact and that the battery has a good charge
- 4Check the connectors at the engine control module and the brake control module for loose contacts and corrosion
- 5The brake control module governs ABS. If the brakes or ABS feel uncertain, do not drive the car; have a workshop check it
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the CAN network with diagnostic equipment
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine performance is poorer than normal
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
