What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module drives the fuel volume control valve with a PWM signal. The valve is supplied with voltage when the ignition is on, and the engine control module grounds the signal wire when the valve is to be activated. The fault code is set when the signal to the valve is too low, which can affect fuel pressure. Torque may be limited or the engine switched off.
Possible causes
- The fuel volume control valve has no supply voltage
- Signal wire short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Damaged fuel volume control valve
- High pressure pump control valve has jammed
- Blocked fuel filter
What you can do
- 1Check and fix any fault codes for the tank pump first
- 2Check that the fuses are intact. Their locations are in the owner's manual
- 3Check the connector to the fuel volume control valve for contact resistance, oxidation and breaks
- 4Look for chafing and breaks on the signal wire and the supply wire to the valve
- 5Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire has no contact with ground with the connectors disconnected
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the fuel pressure and the valve with diagnostic equipment
