What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has found that the signal to the fuel flow control valve is too high while the engine is warm. It compares the high-pressure pump control value with limits that depend on load and engine speed, and the code is set when the value falls outside them. The test only runs with the engine running.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Fuel flow control valve has no supply voltage
- Faulty fuel flow control valve
- High-pressure pump control valve stuck
- Fuel leak on the high-pressure side
- Faulty fuel pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the codes and fix any feed pump codes first, then clear the codes and road test
- 2Check that the fuses for the fuel flow control valve are intact
- 3Check the fuel level and look for leaks, particularly on the high-pressure part of the system
- 4Check the connector at the valve and the pressure sensor for loose or corroded parts, and look for chafed wiring
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the valve control value in live data with the engine idling and check that it does not jump sharply between readings
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the valve and the injection system
Symptoms you may notice5
- Warning symbol and message in the display
- Check engine lamp lit or behaving abnormally
- Lack of power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- Engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily, especially on acceleration and at steady speed
- Uneven idle
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
