What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the position of the intake camshaft, bank 1, and has found that the actual position does not match the commanded one. The code is a general fault without a more specific description, and camshaft control is switched off.
Possible causes
- Low engine oil pressure
- Poor quality engine oil
- Sticking camshaft control valve
- Mechanical fault in the VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the fuse for the supply voltage to the camshaft control valve
- 3Check that the engine oil level on the dipstick is correct and that the oil is clean and of the right quality
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate camshaft control and check that it responds
- 5If the oil is in order but the fault remains: have a workshop measure the oil pressure and clean or replace the control valve
- 6If the fault returns after this: have a workshop check the VVT unit
