What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has found that the intake camshaft, bank 1, moves too slowly when it is to be returned toward the retarded position. The code is a general fault with no more specific description of the fault. It is only set when the engine is warm, the engine speed is above a certain level and camshaft control is active.
Possible causes
- Poor quality engine oil
- Low engine oil pressure
- Dirty or faulty camshaft control valve
- Damaged VVT unit
What you can do
- 1If there is a stored code for the crankshaft-to-camshaft correlation, diagnose that one first
- 2Check the engine oil level and quality, especially if it may be contaminated
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate camshaft control and check that the intake camshaft moves smoothly between positions
- 4Have a workshop remove and clean the control valve and check the oil passages for contamination, as contamination can damage parts in the VVT unit
- 5Have a workshop replace the control valve if cleaning does not solve the fault
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop check the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice4
- Uneven idle
- Engine stalls while driving
- Higher emissions
- Check engine lamp lit or behaving abnormally
