What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module has found that exhaust camshaft control is too slow when the camshaft is returned. The camshaft can then end up too far out. If oil pressure is too low, a spring in the VVT unit can push the camshaft out too far. The code is set when the engine is warm and camshaft control is active.
Possible causes
- Poor quality engine oil
- Low oil pressure
- Faulty exhaust camshaft control valve
- Damaged VVT unit
What you can do
- 1If there is a stored code for the crankshaft-to-camshaft correlation, diagnose that one first
- 2Check the engine oil level and quality, especially if the oil may be contaminated
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: activate exhaust camshaft control and see whether it responds
- 4Have a workshop remove the control valve for cleaning and check the oil passages in the cylinder head
- 5If the fault remains: have a workshop measure the oil pressure and try a new control valve
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop check the VVT unit

- Engine hesitates or runs jerkily on acceleration, when braking and at steady speed
