What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the camshaft position against the crankshaft position. If the camshaft is behind the crankshaft and the adaptation falls below a certain value, the code is set. It is a mechanical fault in timing or adjustment, and it is tested when the engine is warm and idling.
Possible causes
- Poor quality engine oil
- Incorrectly set camshafts
- Timing belt has skipped teeth
- Worn teeth on the timing belt
- Camshaft incorrectly fitted
- Damaged camshaft
What you can do
- 1Check the engine oil level and quality, especially if it may be contaminated
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: activate camshaft control and check that it responds
- 3Have a workshop check that the camshaft is fitted correctly and that the timing belt is not displaced or worn
- 4Have a workshop remove the control valve for cleaning and check the oil passages in the cylinder head
- 5If the fault remains: have a workshop adjust the camshaft setting or try a new control valve
