What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module watches the camshaft sensor and the crankshaft position sensor signals. The code is set when the tooth gap in the crankshaft sensor signal does not arrive at the expected position, meaning the signal is invalid.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation in connectors and connections
- Open circuit in the signal wire
- Faulty camshaft sensor
- Faulty crankshaft position sensor
- Damaged toothed wheel
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connectors at the camshaft sensor and the crankshaft position sensor for loose or oxidised parts
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wires from the sensors have no open circuit
- 4Have a workshop check the toothed wheel that the sensor reads
- 5If the fault returns: have a workshop check the camshaft sensor and the crankshaft position sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine does not start, although the starter motor turns
- Engine hesitates or runs jerkily, at unpredictable times
