What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module adjusts the camshaft adaptation when the camshaft does not agree with the crankshaft, and the code is set when the adaptation changes by more than the equivalent of one tooth. It concerns bank 1, sensor A, which is the intake camshaft. It is tested when the engine is warm or being started.
Possible causes
- Incorrectly set camshafts
- Damaged VVT unit
- Camshaft drive has skipped one or more teeth
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the intake camshaft timing angle with the target value in live data with the engine running
- 3Check the engine oil level and quality, and that it is free from contamination
- 4Have a workshop check the camshaft basic setting and that the camshaft drive has not skipped teeth
- 5Have a workshop remove the control valve for cleaning, or try a new one if the fault remains
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop check the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- The car lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- Engine does not start, the starter motor cranks it
- Engine is hard to start
- Uneven idle
- Engine hesitates or runs jerkily on acceleration and at steady speed
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a fixed value for the camshaft adaptation
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
