What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks that the exhaust camshaft is in the correct position relative to the crankshaft and adjusts the adaptation when it is not. The code concerns sensor B, bank 1, which is the exhaust camshaft. It is set when the adaptation changes too much, and it is checked once the engine is warm or being started.
Possible causes
- Poor quality engine oil
- Incorrectly set camshafts
- Faulty camshaft control valve
- Damaged VVT unit
- Damaged or worn timing chain
What you can do
- 1Read the code and note whether it is active right now or only stored
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the exhaust camshaft timing angle with the target value in live data with the engine running
- 3Check that the engine oil level is correct and that the oil is clean and of the right quality
- 4Have a workshop check the camshaft basic setting and the drive
- 5Have a workshop clean the control valve, or try a new one if the fault remains
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop check the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- Uneven idle
- Higher emissions
- Engine stalls while driving
- Engine misfires
- Check engine lamp lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a fixed value for the camshaft adaptation
