What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the exhaust camshaft position with the crankshaft position and adjusts the adaptation when they do not agree. The code concerns sensor B, bank 1, and is set when the adaptation value falls below a limit. Adaptation is carried out during engine braking.
Possible causes
- Incorrectly set camshafts
- Damaged VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Read the code and note whether it is active right now or only stored
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the exhaust camshaft timing angle with the target value in live data with the engine running
- 3Check the engine oil level and that the oil is clean and of the right quality
- 4Have a workshop check the camshaft basic setting
- 5Have a workshop clean the control valve, or try a new one if the fault remains
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop check the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- The car lacks power when pulling away from standstill
- Engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
- Uneven idle
- Engine stalls while driving
- Check engine lamp lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a fixed value for the camshaft adaptation
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
