What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the exhaust camshaft position with the crankshaft position and adjusts the adaptation when they do not agree. The code concerns sensor B, bank 1, and is set when the adaptation value rises above a limit. Adaptation is carried out during engine braking, and the code is checked once it has been completed.
Possible causes
- Incorrectly set camshafts
- Damaged VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Read the code and note whether it is active right now or only stored
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the exhaust camshaft adaptation in live data with the engine running and note the value
- 3Check that the engine oil level is correct and that the oil is clean and of the right quality
- 4Have a workshop check the exhaust camshaft basic setting
- 5Have a workshop clean the control valve, or try a new one if the fault remains
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop check the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- The car lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- Engine does not start, the starter motor cranks it
- Engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
- Uneven idle
- Engine hesitates or runs jerkily on acceleration
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a fixed value for the camshaft adaptation
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
