What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the camshaft positions relative to the crankshaft. The code concerns the exhaust camshaft, bank 1, sensor B, when it sits too far behind the crankshaft and the adaptation falls below a certain value. The fault is checked with the engine warm and at idle.
Possible causes
- Incorrectly set camshafts
- Camshaft timing belt has skipped teeth
- Worn teeth on the camshaft belt
- Camshaft incorrectly fitted
- Damaged camshaft
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the engine oil level and quality, and that it is free from contamination
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the exhaust camshaft adaptation with the engine warm and idling
- 4Have a workshop check that the camshaft is fitted correctly and that the timing belt sits correctly without skipped teeth
- 5Have a workshop clean or replace the control valve, and adjust the camshaft setting if needed
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop check the camshaft and the VVT unit
