What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the camshaft position with the crankshaft position and adjusts the adaptation when they do not agree. It is a general fault with no more specific description, and it concerns bank 2, sensor A. The code is set when the adaptation rises or falls beyond a certain value, and
Possible causes
- Poor quality engine oil
- Incorrectly set camshafts
- Faulty camshaft control valve
- Damaged VVT unit
- Damaged or worn timing chain
- Camshaft drive has skipped teeth
What you can do
- 1Read the code and note whether it is active right now or only stored
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the intake camshaft adaptation for bank 2 in live data with the engine running
- 3Check the engine oil level and quality, especially if it may be contaminated
- 4Have a workshop check the camshaft basic setting and that the camshaft drive has not skipped teeth
- 5Have a workshop clean the intake camshaft control valve, or try a new one if that does not help
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop check the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- Uneven idle
- Engine stalls while driving
- Engine misfires
- Engine is hard to start
- Check engine lamp lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a fixed value for the camshaft adaptation
