Show models by year and engine (1)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the exhaust camshaft position with the crankshaft position and adjusts the adaptation when they do not agree. The code indicates a signal that is too low in bank 2, sensor B, and is set when the adaptation changes by more than a certain amount.
Possible causes
- Incorrectly set camshafts
- Damaged VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Read the code and note whether it is active right now or only stored
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the exhaust camshaft adaptation for bank 2 in live data with the engine running
- 3Check the connector at the exhaust camshaft sensor for loose or oxidised parts
- 4Check the engine oil level and that the oil is clean and of the right quality
- 5Have a workshop check the camshaft basic setting
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop clean the control valve, or fit a new one, and check the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- The car lacks power, especially when pulling away from standstill
- Engine does not start, the starter motor cranks it
- Engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
- Uneven idle
- Engine hesitates or runs jerkily when slowing down
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a fixed value for the camshaft adaptation
