What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks that the exhaust camshaft is in the correct position relative to the crankshaft and adjusts the adaptation when it is not. The code concerns bank 2, sensor B, which is the exhaust camshaft, and is set when the adaptation changes too much. It is a component fault with incorrect operation.
Possible causes
- Incorrectly set camshafts
- Damaged VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool: read the exhaust camshaft adaptation and timing angle for bank 2 in live data with the engine running
- 3Check the engine oil level and quality, and that it is not contaminated
- 4Have a workshop remove the control valve for cleaning and check the oil passages in the cylinder head
- 5If cleaning does not solve the fault: have a workshop fit a new control valve
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop check the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice5
- The car lacks power when pulling away from standstill
- Engine does not start, the starter motor cranks it
- Engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
- Uneven idle
- Engine stalls while driving
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a fixed value for the camshaft adaptation
