What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module controls the variable cam profiles and monitors the control signal to the cam profile valves on the intake side, bank 1. The code is a general fault with no more specific description, and it is set when the control signal is missing.
Possible causes
- Dirty or damaged cam profile solenoid
- Poor contact or oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the supply wire
- Open circuit in the signal wire
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the cam profile solenoid for loose or oxidised parts
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the solenoid have no open circuit
- 4Look for chafed or pinched wiring along the harness to the solenoid
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the intake-side cam profile control and check that it responds
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop clean the cam profile solenoid, or replace it if it still malfunctions
Symptoms you may notice5
- Emissions warning lamp lit
- Uneven idle
- Engine is hard to start
- Higher fuel consumption
- Reduced performance
What the fault can affect1
- The variable cam profile on both banks switches to the low-lift position
