What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the control signal to the cam profile valves on the intake side, bank 1, and controls the variable cam profiles. The code is set when the control signal is too low, and it is tested with the ignition on. It is a general fault with no more specific description.
Possible causes
- Dirty or damaged cam profile solenoid
- Signal wire shorted to ground
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the solenoid is not shorted to ground
- 3Check the connector at the solenoid for loose or corroded parts
- 4Have a workshop clean the cam profile solenoid, since metal casting residue in the oil can make it stick
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault status once the diagnosis is complete, where it should show that no fault is found
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop replace the cam profile solenoid if it still malfunctions after two cleanings
Symptoms you may notice5
- Emissions warning lamp lit
- Uneven idle
- Engine is hard to start
- Higher fuel consumption
- Reduced performance
What the fault can affect1
- The variable cam profile on both banks switches to the low-lift position
