Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the exhaust camshaft on bank 2, which is controlled too far out. The engine control module sets the code when control is too slow while the camshaft is being returned. If oil pressure is too low, a spring in the VVT unit can push the camshaft out too far. The code is set with the engine warm and camshaft control active.
Possible causes
- Poor quality engine oil
- Low oil pressure
- Damaged exhaust camshaft control valve
- Damaged VVT unit
What you can do
- 1If there is a stored code for the crankshaft-to-camshaft correlation, diagnose that one first
- 2Check the engine oil level and quality, especially if it may be contaminated
- 3Have a workshop measure the oil pressure, since low pressure can let the camshaft be pushed out too far
- 4Have a workshop remove the control valve for cleaning and check the oil passages in the cylinder head
- 5If the fault remains: have a workshop try a new control valve
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop check the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice4
- Uneven idle
- Higher emissions
- Engine stalls while driving
- Check engine lamp lit or behaving abnormally
