What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns the control solenoid for the intake valve on bank 1. The engine control module monitors the intake camshaft position and sets the code when the camshaft is not in the commanded position and the solenoid signal changes too slowly. The code is tested when the engine is running and camshaft control is active.
Possible causes
- Low engine oil pressure
- Poor quality engine oil
- Sticking camshaft control valve
- Mechanical fault in the VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the fuse for the supply voltage to the intake camshaft control valve
- 3Check the engine oil level and quality, especially for contamination
- 4Have a workshop measure the oil pressure, since low pressure can cause the fault
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate camshaft control and check that it responds
- 6If the fault returns: have a workshop clean the control valve, or replace it if cleaning does not help
Symptoms you may notice4
- Check engine lamp lit or behaving abnormally
- Engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
- The car lacks power
- Engine hesitates or runs jerkily on acceleration and at steady speed
What the fault can affect1
- Camshaft control is switched off
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
