What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the exhaust camshaft position and has found that it does not match the commanded position, so the camshaft cannot reach it. The code concerns the control solenoid for the exhaust valve on bank 1. It is a mechanical fault, and camshaft control is switched off.
Possible causes
- Low engine oil pressure
- Poor quality engine oil
- Sticking exhaust camshaft control valve
- Mechanical fault in the VVT unit
What you can do
- 1Check the fuse for the supply voltage to the exhaust camshaft control valve
- 2Check the engine oil level and quality, especially that it is not contaminated
- 3Have a workshop measure the oil pressure
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: activate exhaust camshaft control and see whether it responds
- 5If the fault remains: have a workshop clean the control valve and check the oil passages in the cylinder head
- 6If the fault returns after this: have a workshop replace the control valve and check the VVT unit
Symptoms you may notice4
- Check engine lamp lit or behaving abnormally
- Engine is hard to start and cranks slowly
- The car lacks power
- Engine hesitates or runs jerkily on acceleration and at steady speed
What the fault can affect1
- Camshaft control is switched off
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
