What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the heater circuit of the front lambda sensor on bank 1 with the ignition on. The code is set when the circuit is shorted to supply voltage, meaning the heater signal rises above a set level while heating is on. The lambda sensor provides information about the air-fuel mixture before the particulate filter.
Possible causes
- Supply wire shorted to supply voltage
- Faulty front lambda sensor
- Poor contact or oxidation in the connections
- Overheated lambda sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the front lambda sensor for loose or oxidised parts, and do not use rust-release spray or grease in the connector
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wire to the lambda sensor is not shorted to supply voltage
- 4If the fault remains after troubleshooting: have a workshop try a new lambda sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- Emissions warning lamp lit
- Check engine lamp lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- Lambda control is switched off
- Heating of the front lambda sensor is switched off
