What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module regulates the heating of the rear lambda sensor on bank 1, sensor 2, by pulsing the current to the sensor's PTC element. The code concerns an open circuit and is set when the signal falls below a set level while the heating is switched off.
Possible causes
- Poor contact and oxidation in the connections
- Open circuit in the supply from the system relay
- Faulty rear lambda sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the code, clear it and road test the car to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the rear lambda sensor for poor contact or oxidation, and do not use rust-release spray or grease in the connector
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the supply voltage from the system relay to the rear lambda sensor has no open circuit
- 4Have a workshop check the resistance of the lambda sensor
- 5If troubleshooting does not solve the fault: have a workshop try a new lambda sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Check engine lamp lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- Lambda control is switched off
