What does this fault code mean?
The turbo bypass valve has jammed in the closed position even though it should be open. The engine control module tests the valve while the engine is running. The code is general and does not specify the type of fault.
Possible causes
- The bypass valve is sticking and stays closed
What you can do
- 1With a diagnostic tool, activate the bypass valve with the ignition on and listen for a click. No click suggests it is stuck
- 2Check the valve connector for loose fit, corrosion and oxidation
- 3With a multimeter, check the valve wiring for open circuit or short to ground
- 4Repair any damage found in the connector or wiring before going further
- 5If no fault is found in the connector or wiring, the bypass valve itself may be faulty and need replacing
Symptoms you may notice2
- Unusual noise while driving, mainly when the accelerator pedal is released
- It is unclear when the noise occurs, it may be present all the time
